BIRDS-RPM ADCS Ground Station

BIRDS-RPM satellite ADCS (Attitude Determination and Control System) ground station software. Receives telemetry packets over a COM Port, decodes them in real time, plots them as time-series charts, and saves them as CSV; works with real hardware, simulated data (Demo), or an existing log file (Replay).

About the packet format

This software ships with a generic demo format, letting you run the program without any hardware and see the full UI behavior. To hook up your own hardware, only the C_packet_def.py file needs to change — see Configuration for details.

What this software can do

  • Live connection: pick a COM Port + baud rate, receive and decode telemetry packets
  • Demo mode: no hardware needed, test the UI and workflow with a built-in simulated waveform
  • Replay mode: read and replay an existing log file (text format or a pure binary packet file), useful for debugging and demos
  • Multiple packet formats: several lengths of format can be defined at once, auto-detected by length or manually locked to one
  • Live charts: tabs organized by field category, zoomable, hover to see values
  • Data export: writes CSV in real time, the output path can be switched anytime

Getting Started

  1. Start with Installation to set up your environment
  2. Then read Usage to learn what every button and panel in the UI does
  3. To adjust settings (COM Port, colors, update rate...) or the packet format -> Configuration
  4. Check the FAQ first if you run into trouble
